On the map of the Netherlands, we can see both old infrastructures finding a place in the new system as well as new infrastructures being added. The old infrastructure includes spaces that have become obsolete – such as incineration plants – and can now be reused for circular economy related activities, as well as spaces that were already part of the circular economy system.

The new infrastructure takes the existing circular economy infrastructure as a base and builds and expands from there. On the map, the red blobs indicate big Circular Economy (CE) clusters. These can be seen as centres of innovation for the new economy. They include existing and new CE infrastructure, knowledge institutions, and large processing companies. By clustering them together we aim to increase cooperation and support the development of new technologies and innovative practices. Outside of the big clusters, we have identified small cities that now lack CE infrastructure.
